Born in 1657, Sophia was a noblewoman from Naxos who became one of the first Ursuline nuns on the island. She grew up in the fortified city of Kastro and was known for her strong will. Unlike most noblewomen of her time, she learned about healing herbs and childbirth. At age 19, she helped protect the city during a pirate attack in 1676.
